Inter with a late comeback to beat PSG 2 - 1 in Tokyo
Inter Japan Tour
— Aug 1st 2023Goals from Esposito and Sensi seal a fine win following Vitinha's opener for the French side
Two goals in the last ten minutes saw Inter come from behind to beat PSG: in their second and final friendly in Japan, the Nerazzurri ran out 2-1 winners over the French side thanks to goals from Sebastiano Esposito and Stefano Sensi. It took less than three minutes for Simone Inzaghi's men to turn things around: Esposito cancelled out Vitinha's 64th-minute opener in the 81st minute, and Sensi then bagged the winner on the 83-minute mark. Involved in both goals was Davide Frattesi, who came on in the second half and provided two assists.
Five days on from their friendly against Al-Nassr in Osaka, the team took to the pitch at the Japan National Stadium in Tokyo today. Wearing the new Away Kit, the Nerazzurri were up against a Paris Saint-Germain side who had already played two games on Japanese soil. Inzaghi's team consisted of Stankovic between the sticks, Darmian, Acerbi and Bastoni in defence, Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan and Dimarco in midfield and Lautaro and Thuram up front.
Paris Saint-Germain, who weren't playing with any out-and-out centre-forwards, controlled proceedings early on, with Asensio displaying some great movement up top. With Stankovic and the Inter defence having repelled a few dangerous moves, the French side came inches away from opening the scoring in the 14th minute as Asensio hit the post. The Nerazzurri gradually grew into the game and, from the midway point of the half, started to get on the ball, switch play and get at their opponents. The first half finished with Inter very much in the ascendancy, even if Donnarumma wasn't called into action.
The second half was played at a lower tempo, and PSG struck first in the 64th minute: with the French side having won back possession, Vitinha picked out the top corner with a fantastic strike from distance. The pace of the match didn't change after the goal, but then Frattesi and Cuadrado entered the fray to breathe new life into the Nerazzurri.
In the 79th minute, Cuadrado almost scored a brilliant individual goal from a tight angle, but Donnarumma stood firm to deny him. Two minutes later, Inter drew level: Cuadrado found Frattesi, who set up Esposito for an excellent right-footed finish across the goalkeeper. It was a deserved equaliser, and the Nerazzurri quickly built on it two minutes later. Frattesi was again in the heart of the action: having received the ball from Correa, the Italian rolled it across for Sensi, who converted with his left foot at the far post.
Two goals, a late turnaround and plenty of smiles as the Inter Japan Tour 2023 finished on a high.
