— Dec 12th 2023Player interviews following Inter's Champions League draw with Real Sociedad
Following their match against Real Sociedad at San Siro, Inter have progressed to the knockouts in second and have gone unbeaten throughout the group stage for the second time after previously doing so in 2004/05. This is what a few of the players had to say after tonight's goalless draw, starting with Darmian, who captained the side:
“It’s a real source of pride to have worn the captain’s armband. They pressed us really well and we gave as good as we got, but, unfortunately, we weren’t able to score. The draw means we won’t progress as the group winners, but we need to look ahead positively. I don’t think the other teams want to be drawn against us. ”
Matteo Darmian
“We knew the kind of game that would await us. We wanted to win, but they played really well and we’re happy to be in the Champions League knockouts. We produced a good performance against a great team. Every game is difficult in the Champions League, and this was the case tonight. Now, we’ll turn our attentions to Sunday.”
Marcus Thuram
“We’ve played out a goalless draw with an excellent team; there’s not much more to add. We’ve progressed as the second-place side from our group and will meet very strong sides, but we’re also an excellent team. The fact we didn’t score is also down to Real Sociedad: they’re a technical and fast side and really pressed us, but this is what it’s like in the Champions League. We’ve shown that we can compete with anyone and, sooner or later, we’ll have to face everyone. My secret? I try to keep in shape physically and always be really motivated.”
Francesco Acerbi
“It was a difficult game, but we did well and now we’ll look ahead to our upcoming matches. My objective is to always help the team. I need to continuously work to improve and make the most of every opportunity. We wanted to finish first and could have been tidier and made more of our chances, but we’re in the knockouts. Now, we’ll turn our attentions to the league and Coppa Italia before returning to the Champions League.”
Carlos Augusto
“These matches really help you grow; they’re good and difficult tests involving plenty of aggression and physicality. Barella is a strong player, and I enjoy playing with him. I also got along with Asllani straight away; we’re a fantastic group. ”
