MILANO - Benjamin Pavard has joined Inter. The french defender to Inter TV about his excitement at starting this new adventure.
You’ve chosen Inter and Serie A: can you tell us about your decision? “Inter is a winning Club. You just need to look at these trophies behind me. I play football to win, that’s why I decided to join Inter”.
You’ve played with both Sommer and Thuram before, did they tell you anything about Inter? “We spoke a few times. Marcus and I were texting. He told me that the atmosphere here is amazing, that this is a top Club. I’m happy to be at a team of this level”.
You’re only 27 years old and you’ve already won so many titles, like the Champions League and World Cup. What do you hope to bring to Inter? “Certainly the experience that I gained at Bayern and with France. I’ve learned a lot. I’m coming here with a clear aim: show that I can give it everything”.
Do you have a goal in mind for your time with the Nerazzurri? “I want to win the Scudetto so that Inter get their second star. I live to win trophies and this is important for the fans and the Club. I’ll do everything I can to win as many titles as possible. We have some world-famous players in the squad, who will help us to win them”.
You’re a versatile player; how will you adapt to Inter’s style of play? “I’ve joined as a centre-back but I can also play as a full-back in a back four”.
You have an eye for goal too; you scored seven times last season. “I’ve always had a knack for getting in the right position. I even scored a header against Inter. But I aim to win games and titles; if I can celebrate a goal with the fans, even better”.
You had the most tackles won and passes completed in the Bundesliga last season. What are your best attributes? “The most important trait for a defender is awareness, winning as many tackles as possible and being decisive. Scoring and assisting is a plus. The most important thing for a defender is to... defend”.
