The group stages, Lautaro reaches 250 and Sanchez's record: the facts from Inter vs Salzburg

MILANO - 2-1 against Salzburg and another three points. Inter win an extremely important game in matchday three of the Champions League group stages and remain on top of Group D, together with Real Sociedad with seven points. The Nerazzurri now have two tough away matches coming up: the first against the Austrians again, before they head to Portugal to face Benfica. The final group stage match will see Simone Inzaghi’s boys take on Real Sociedad at San Siro.

Last night’s victory at San Siro brought with it some interesting statistics. 

THE MOST PROLIFIC CHILEAN

The opening goal was not only important in the match but also for Alexis Sánchez who became the highest-scoring Chilean in the Champions League, with 16 goals, overtaking Arturo Vidal on 15. The number 70 scored for Inter in the Champions League for the first time since his goal against Sheriff Tiraspol on 3 November 2021.

TURKISH SNIPER

He is increasingly relentless from the spot; since joining Inter, Hakan Çalhanoglu has scored all nine of his penalties in all competitions. The Turkish midfielder’s seven goals in the Champions League have all come at home, this is the highest number among players that have scored 100% of their goals at home, together with former Interista, Dennis Bergkamp.

A prestigious milestone for the captain. Lautaro Martínez played his 250th match for Inter (all competitions) last night against Salzburg. An achievement that was about to be celebrated in the best possible way thanks to the goal scored by the Nerazzurri number 10, before the goal was ruled out by VAR.
