Inter rampant, Lazio crushed 6 - 0 at the Olimpico

A rampant Inter crush Lazio 0-6 at the Olimpico: the Nerazzurri dominated, going ahead at the end of the first half with goals from Calhanoglu and Dimarco. In the second half, Inzaghi’s side raised the tempo: Barella bagged an extraordinary goal, then Dumfries scored to make it 0-4, while goals from Carlos Augusto and Thuram in the latter stages rounded off the scoreline. The opener came in the 41st minute with a penalty, which was preceded by a lengthy VAR check for a handball from Gigot. Calhanoglu made no mistake from the spot for the opening goal. It was one-way traffic from that point onwards, with the Inter midfield dictating play and allowing the Inter fans in Rome to sing non-stop. Four minutes later, Provedel had to get the ball out of the back of his net again: a perfect counter attack, Dumfries brilliantly assisted Dimarco for a lethal left-footed volley. 

0-2 and the teams headed into the break with contrasting moods, which remained unchanged upon the restart. Inter sealed the deal in the 51st and 53rd minute with two brilliant goals: Barella ignited the race for goal of the year with a touch and shot from distance which left Provedel without a chance. Then, Dumfries struck with his signature header at the far post - assisted by Bastoni - to make it 0-4. 

With more than half an hour to play, the match was virtually over. Inzaghi made the most of rotations to bring on fresh legs, with key fixtures coming up. Carlos Augusto left his mark on the match with an elegant finish, like a natural striker. In the 77th minute he controlled the ball and finished with a soft touch in the area. It didn’t end there however. At the end of a complete performance, Marcus Thuram scored to make it 0-6 in the 90th minute, dribbling and striking in the box like a true champion.  Six goals to nil, a monstrous display from Inter, with focus now shifting on to Thursday’s match against Udinese in the Coppa Italia.
