It ended 1-1 between Monza and Inter at the U-Power Stadium on Serie A matchday 4. It all happened in the second half with a Mota goal in the 81st minute and a Dumfries equaliser in the 88th. Here is what Simone Inzaghi said following the game:
“The squad had a good approach and we created things in the first 20 minutes, but we should have done better to open the scoring: the game was similar last year but we took the lead right away. Following on, we were slow in possession and missing some quality with the final ball: there was the chance where we could have shot from the edge of the box but we tried to pick someone out instead. Monza sat deep and had a good game, we need to be better, then when it seemed like we had more energy, we conceded. We managed well but we should have done better: I am alright with the reaction, we did well to go level and even if we are disappointed, we will carry on. Asllani and Frattesi did well in the midfield, playing as they should. We wanted to win and maybe we would have deserved to but Monza played a good game and never gave in: my compliments. We played against Genoa with three forwards at the end: they did well, they got involved and it isn't easy for them to play against a side that defends so well. Zielinski is a quality mezzala, he will give us a lot this season: he came in well and is working well after a couple of small problems this summer.”
