Inzaghi: "A big performance; the team were compact and aggressive"

— Apr 4th 2023The thoughts of the Nerazzurri Coach after the 1-1 first-leg draw in the Coppa Italia
The first-leg semi-final showdown between Juventus and Inter finished in a 1-1 draw in Turin, with Cuadrado and Lukaku getting on the scoresheet. The return fixture is scheduled for 26 April at San Siro.
This is what Coach Simone Inzaghi had to say after tonight's game:
"The team performed well and controlled the match throughout. We weren't always precise with our chances and their goalkeeper did well, but my evaluation would have been the same even if Lukaku hadn't scored. The team were excellent at a tough place to play, so there are a lot of positives to take from the match. The lads were compact and aggressive. It's a good sign, but this was only the first leg. There's the return fixture to play, and a win would see us qualify for another final of a competition that means a lot to us.
"As regards what happened at the end, Lukaku's celebration was misunderstood. He always celebrates like that, and then an ugly scene took place. It will deprive us of Lukaku and Handanovic, who are two crucial players for us.
"We'll have another match in three days. We need to move on from this first leg because there will be many games between now and the return fixture. We wanted to produce a big performance and the team were cohesive and compact, apart from when they scored. We could have been more attentive and focused to avoid conceding, but we gave very little away against a strong side.
"The fans? Our supporters are unique and unmatched. At San Siro, the whole stadium supported us and cheered us on until the end despite the defeat. We're Inter and it's only natural for us to want different results. We want and need to do more and be better, but tonight's response was excellent."
