“I’m very happy with the lads’ performance. We knew it’d be difficult: we were up against a team that began their pre-season 20 days before us and who need to prepare for the Champions League playoffs, so it wasn’t easy. Games like these help you to improve your physical shape. We made a few mistakes at the start and this led to us conceding twice. Then, however, we reacted brilliantly. I’d particularly like to thank a few players who sacrificed themselves for the team. Here, I’m referring to D’Ambrosio, who played in the centre, Darmian, who played for 90 minutes, and Dimarco, who has only just started pre-season but was on the pitch for an hour. The directors are excellent when it comes to building the squad. We know that there’s a position to fill in defence, and we’ll see what happens.”
