Inter beat Hellas Verona 1-0 at home thanks to Lautaro Martinez's deciding goal. With these three points, they are now only one point behind AC Milan, currently in second place in the table. At the final whistle, Simone Inzaghi had this to say:
"We've come off the back of playing 120 minutes on Tuesday, but the squad remained focused and got an early goal. In the closing stages, we were compact and very solid and didn't suffer much at all, especially as Verona are in a good period in this moment."
"I thnk that Handanovic and Brozovic won't be fit for the Supercoppa, and we'll assess Lukaku day by day and see how he copes with training. I was slightly worried about some players' conditions after three games in such a short space of time. Added to that, there's Calhanoglu and Barella who have made themselves available for tonight, just as Mkhitaryan, Gagliardini and Asllani have in these games, and they've all given great performances. Some rest is going to be really important in this moment."
"Chasing down Napoli? We have eight of our last ten league games. In the last two and a half months, we've had great consistency. At this time, Napoli are ahead and there are a lot of teams within distance of each other. We can't look at the table, but only play each game as it comes hoping that everyone is available to gives us the best chance to pick the best team for each game."
"We've done really well in these 18 months despite all the difficulties we've encountered. I'm happy with the work the players are doing and the Club as a whole. I want to thank our fans who always follow us and have helped us along the way. I'm really pleased".
