— Nov 29th 2023The thoughts of the Nerazzurri head coach after Inter's comeback against Benfica
In Lisbon, Inter displayed the desire to never give up and the determination not to lose. Arnautovic's first Nerazzurri goal, Frattesi's fantastic volley and Sanchez's penalty saw Simone Inzaghi's men come from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 with Benfica following Joao Mario's first-half hat-trick. This is what the Nerazzurri head coach had to say after the game:
“We started the game poorly and lacked focus, which you pay the price for in the Champions League. After the first half, we regrouped so we could all do more. We responded really well and managed to draw level. If Barella hadn’t hit the woodwork, it would have been a historic comeback. I’ll take the positives, which was the great reaction. We’re a great group and work well, and we want to enjoy success. It was fantastic to qualify with two games to spare, but we knew that tonight would be difficult and so it proved to be. The lads have tremendous spirit and responded brilliantly after a poor first half. We showed that we’re a great group, and, at the end, we went looking for a winner. I’m happy with our reaction. We know where we want to end up, and I know that I can count on the entire squad. It would have been easy to take off four or five players, but we all needed to do more. A single moment can change matches, as can a different approach. This was the case tonight. ”
