— Nov 7th 2023The Nerazzurri's press conference ahead of FC Salzburg vs. Inter
It's the eve of matchday 4 in Group of the UEFA Champions League for Inter as they prepare to take on FC Salzburg. Head Coach Simone Inzaghi spoke from the Red Bulla Arena ahead of the game:
A win tomorrow could see Inter go through with tqo games to spare. How important would that be?
We understand the importance of tomorrow's game, and that we're facing a side that showed how good they are San Siro. Salzburg are a physical side that work hard and have excellent players We've already played them here and know how passionate the fans are. We'll have to play because Salzburg have experience in playing these types of games.
This is a team of 15/16 first-team starters?
Absolutely. In every game I have to make decisions. I'll make some changes tomorrow but it's a great respurce to have; it should never be a problem to make some changes. We have a squad full of quality that should be utilised as much as possible and every time I make changes the lads always come in and make a statement. With Pavard's injury, we lose a really big player who has slotted in perfectly, both tactically and technically. In this period though, we've done really well despite the absences of Arnautovic and Cuadrado and we'll wait for Pavard until he can return to help us back out.
Are you thinking of changing the approach to the game or were you happy with the way things went at San Siro?
We looked back over the game at San Siro. Salzburg are a quality side, well-organised and, like at San Siro, we expect difficulties tomorrow and we'll have to overcome them together. In the reverse fixture, we approached the game brilliantly; we struggled a little bit at the start, but once we'd got to grips with the game and settled down we had a really good end to the first half and second half. We deserved the win, but we know that tomorrow's game will be even more difficult.
These can be endless games. How will you need to play? We will need technique and physicality. Salzburg are a physical and technical team so we'll have to do well in both aspects. We'll have to show the best Inter; we know the importance of the game and we will try to put on show a big performance.
Is Bisseck ready for a night like this? He’s working hard; he’s developing as a player and has shown some good stuff in training and when he’s played. We have an issue on the right with Cuadrado out and Pavard injured. Dumfries wasn’t fit enough to train – I spoke with the doctors and physios; he’s with us but it’s not sure if he’ll start. My options are Bisseck, De Vrij and maybe Carlos Augusto on the right. I have different options; I need to assess them, though Darmian might also slot into that role as well. What is the dynamic between Barella and Frattesi? They played well in the second half against Salzburg, we’ll see tomorrow. Frattesi will start, I just need to decide for the other two spots. Asllani is improving constantly and Mkhitaryan and Barella are doing really well. Klaassen deserves time too; he is causing me a selection headache with his work in training. I’ll need to make the choices tomorrow and it’ll all be for the good of Inter.
