Inter drew 3-3 away to Barcelona this evening, moving on to seven points in Champions League Group C. It was a thrilling encounter at Camp Nou, and the result means that Inzaghi's men will progress to the last 16 should they beat Plzen in their upcoming showdown against the Czech side at 18:45 CEST on Wednesday 26 October (buy your ticket here).
After the match, several players gave their thoughts, from Lautaro, who found the net at Camp Nou again after previously doing so in 2019 and provided the assist for Gosens to momentarily make it 3-2, to Barella, the match MVP. Gosens and André Onana also gave their opinions.
“We were up against a really strong side in a stadium that was like an arena. However, we heard our fans, who are always present. We’d like to thank them. We were aware that we were going through a difficult period, but we looked each other in the eyes and put in what we needed to. Alongside our experienced players like Mkhitaryan, those who have been here longer do everything to help drive everyone forward. We all need to fight, starting from the strikers, and today we produced an incredible performance. The goal? Goals come when you least expect it, I’ve always said this. I’ve always tried to make a contribution. I also got an assist and am happy for Robin because he always works so hard in training and deserves it. ”
Lautaro Martinez
“We really wanted to win. In the end, it finished in a draw, but we’re happy; this is the right spirit. We’re rediscovering what had been missing for a while and we’re satisfied. Football consists of different phases. We’ve been through a period where nothing went our way. Getting back on our feet has been difficult, but hopefully we’ve turned the corner. This is a difficult group; we’ll give it our all and will see how it goes. ”
Niccolò Barella
“We knew that we had the required spirit to be able to inflict damage on a team like Barcelona in a stadium like this. It wasn’t easy, but we played as a real team that wanted to stay in the game, dig in together and display enormous spirit. Only by doing these things can you produce these types of performances. We gave everything and are very happy. I’m fortunate; taking to the Camp Nou pitch and scoring a goal like that is a unique feeling. I’m delighted because I was able to help the team. This match needs to motivate us; it’ll give us something extra. Now, we need to push on and display the quality that was on show this evening.”
Robin Gosens
“It’s not a win, but it’s an important point for us. We were able to dig in together and were united. We played our game, created many chances and are pleased with what we did. We need to carry on in this manner.”
Andrè Onana
