Audero, first clean sheet: "Vital to ensure that I'm ready"

— Feb 25th 2024The thoughts of the Nerazzurri goalkeeper and Carlos Augusto after the away victory over Lecce
A league debut with Inter and a first clean sheet in Nerazzurri colours: Emil Audero was a key figure in the team's win against Lecce, as was Carlos Augusto. This is what the duo had to say after the game at the Via del Mare:
“It was a lively match until the very end and especially in the first half with their aggressive pressing. The condition of the pitch didn’t allow us to pass as well as we would have wanted to, but we did well to find the spaces and remain focused. I’m happy; the move for the second goal is something we often try out in training. It’s particularly satisfying when a move started by myself ends with a goal. This is an important year for me and I’m training with fantastic players, meaning I can learn every day. For goalkeepers, a lack of continuity is difficult; it’s a role that requires an awareness of spaces and reading of the play. This is why I need to work on all of this in training to ensure that I’m ready when called upon. During the week, we work hard on playing with our feet to overcome the press: calculated risks are part of my role, and you need to be able to work with your teammates.”

“Those who get fewer minutes work hard during the week. We’re all friends in this group and feel the confidence of the coach when we’re given the opportunity, allowing us to play well. I feel at ease as part of a three-man backline; I played in that position for an entire season in Serie B. My only interest is helping Inter. I think the work of the staff and my teammates is really helping me, and I’m ready to help the team. It’s great to have Brazilian DNA, but you also need discipline here in Europe. Here, the group makes the difference; I have brilliant teammates, and we all lend each other a hand and care for each other. Lautaro, Barella, Bastoni, Dimarco... those who have been here for a long time have really helped me, but I also previously got to know Frattesi at Monza. I like pushing forward towards goal, but, above all, I like playing, and doing so in defence is a pleasure. We take it game by game and focus on one competition at a time.”
