Power and finesse. The ability to deliver the finishing touch, like a true number 10. The ability burst forward, displaying all the power of a true goalscorer. The ability to lead, like a true captain. Lautaro Martinez, once again. After his crucial goal in Prague, the Argentinian striker produced another standout performance. In Lecce, he scored with a stunning left-footed strike into the top corner before providing a wonderful back-heel assist for Dumfries to add a third.
Another fantastic display from a player whose numbers just keep on growing: his goal tally now stands at 141, two behind sixth-place Benito Lorenzi in Inter’s all-time top scorer ranking. He’s bagged twelve goals this season and a total of 112 times in Serie A (he’s moved ahead of Icardi and is now the second-best foreign scorer in Inter’s history in the Italian top flight, with only Nyers ahead of him). Furthermore, he has 200 career goals to his name: 27 for Racing Club, 141 for Inter and 32 for Argentina.
The Nerazzurri captain had the following to say after today’s victory:
“I work every day to try and lend the team a hand. I’ve overcome a tough period, and I aim to give my best, help the team and do what the coach asks, implementing what we’ve worked on during the week. It was a great goal: I fought hard and struck the ball with my left foot. When you see the ball go in, it’s always a great feeling. The important thing is for Inter to take home three points, and that’s what we did today, so that’s great. We are Inter, and every player who wears this shirt must show character; here, we work and play to make the fans happy. We’re focused and always think about our next opponents, making sure we’re ready to face them. Frattesi is proof of what we’re all about: when he’s called upon, he always makes an impact. We see it every day, whether in training or during matches. I care about him, and he always gives his best because, just like everyone else, he knows that every game is crucial.”
