Inzaghi: "We displayed great heart"

LECCE - A win that came about thanks to plenty of character and heart. Inter began the 2022/23 season with three vital points, which they secured following a very demanding pre-season. The work done also led to tonight's victory in Lecce, after which Coach Simone Inzaghi had the following to say: "The team once again showed that they've got tremendous heart after scoring a winner in the 95th minute. We started well and were excellent in the opening half an hour. Then, however, we lost our composure a bit and started to get it wrong with our positioning on the pitch. Then came their equaliser. We'll need to analyse the performance together; we need to learn how to kill off games like this."
The victory also came about thanks to the contribution of those who came on in the second half: "I have four strikers who can play together. In the end, they were all on the pitch. With Dzeko and Lukaku, we can play a bit more directly; this is an option that helped us in the closing stages. All my attackers are feeling good, and we can also play with three up front at the same time. Given that Lecce had four at the back, I preferred to have Lautaro playing deeper, with Dzeko and Lukaku doing battle with the centre-backs.
"I was aware of the physical condition of the team: you need to consider that several players came back later and preparations weren't the same for everybody," continued the Coach.
Finally, Inzaghi commented on Lukaku's performance, with the Belgian having scored on his Nerazzurri debut for a second time: "Romelu is feeling good. He's working hard and displaying plenty of desire and willingness. I'm happy to have him at my disposal; he inspires the team and I'm sure he'll bag plenty of goals."
