— Jan 4th 2023The Nerazzurri Head Coach expresses his joy after his side's 1-0 win over Napoli
Inter's 2023 has started with an important win over Napoli. Spalletti's side were still unbeaten in this year's league campaign and but despite the tight 1-0 win, the Nerazzurri created many chances throughout the match.
Simone Inzaghi was pleased with his side's performance and after the game spoke about the win.
"I'm happy for Dzeko, he's playing really well. He brings many important characteristics to the team, and is helping us a lot. We're in the chase, we need to get back higher up the table, but being the first team to beat Napoli is an important message."
"I must be honest: it was a joy to watch these players this evening. I'm happy with tonight and this game, played in front of an unbelievable crowd. For the whole month of December, this group of players has trained in the best possible way, so I was kind of expecting a performance like this. In the second part of the first half, we dropped back a bit and conceded possession to Napoli, but we maintained our intensity, anyway. The team showed the best of themselves the whole game."
"This win should give us great belief for the future. We've won nine out of the last ten game, getting through to the knockout stages of the Champions League. We started off losing some points in the league, but now we must just take one game at a time. In this period, we're getting players back from injury; there's only Brozovic so we're looking forward to getting him back because we'll need everyone with so many games in such a short space of time."
"The break was strange for everyone, but all the teams at the top have won so we've done very well to stop Napoli. The season is long, everyone's still in the race."
Finally, a few words on individual players: "It's difficult to name names on a night like tonight, even those who came on contributed well. Calhanoglu was superb in a really important role; he gave a great performance, just as all the lads did."
