MILANO - Yann Sommer is a new Inter player: the Swiss goalkeeper has appeared in an exclusive interview for Inter TV in which he relates his feelings at the start of his adventure as part of the Nerazzurri.
Your will has been clear for a while: how come you chose Inter? "There are several things that prompted me to come to Inter: this is an important club on an Italian and international level, with a great tradition. Playing for a team like Inter represents a new challenge in my career. I can’t wait to play at San Siro, to see the fans and experience the atmosphere of Milano: it's good to be here."
It’s your first experience in Italy: what do you expect from Serie A? "I don't know, I just know that I can't wait to challenge new opponents and new attackers with Inter, hoping to have great success in stadiums I don't know yet: everything is new for me".
In your opinion, what is your biggest strength as a goalkeeper? “I am an explosive goalie, I try to help my teammates by also playing with my feet, becoming another option for them when the ball is in our half. I try to convey confidence and calm to them, always trying to remain consistent".
In your wheelhouse, there’s certainly the ability to play with your feet, which will be fundamental here given the importance of building from the back. "Yes, it's one of the reasons why I'm happy to be able to play for Inter. Simone Inzaghi is a coach who loves building from the back, he's demonstrated that in recent seasons. This is my style of play, I like being another option for my team and facing pressure from opponents'.
Inter has always had a great tradition when it comes to goalkeepers. What does it mean for you to wear this shirt and what is your message for your newest fans? "It means a lot to me, it's something that makes me proud. There are many legendary goalkeepers who have played here: I'm looking forward to wearing this shirt and playing at San Siro in front of the fans. This is what I want to tell them: I'm happy to be here and proud to play for Inter, I can't wait to meet you and feel the great power you bring to the stadium."
