Extraordinary numbers attest to the great journey of Simone Inzaghi's side at the start of 2024. The season stops for the first international break of the year. There were 15 games from the start of January to today with 35 goals scored. In the midst of things was the Supercoppa Italiana win, top of the table, the two Champions League clashes against Atletico Madrid and the 10 consecutive wins in Serie A.
SUPERCOPPA ITALIANA
On 22 January in Riyadh, Simone Inzaghi's side lifted the Supercoppa Italiana trophy in the final against Napoli, decided by the goal from Lautaro Martinez in the 91st minute. In the semis, the Nerazzurri beat Lazio 3-0 thanks to goals from Thuram, Calhanoglu and Frattesi. It is the eighth trophy for the Nerazzurri in the history of the competition.
LAUTARO 100 AND TOP SCORER
The goal at 15' in the first half of Lecce vs. Inter on matchday 26 of the season saw Lautaro Martinez add to his extraordinary stats, both this season and across his career in an Inter shirt. The goal at the Via del Mare was Lautaro Martinez's 100th goal in Serie A for Inter.
In the second half, el Toro also made it 3-0, picking up a brace that added to his record once again. In total, he has scored 128 Nerazzurri goals: the captain sits eighth for all-time top goalscorers in Inter history and is the current top goalscorer this season in Serie A with 23 goals.
10 CONSECUTIVE WINS
From the first game on 6 January 2024, the home game against Hellas Verona, to the win over Bologna on 9 March, the Nerazzurri registered a run of 10 consecutive wins in the league. Inter has won at least 10 straight games for the third time in their Serie A history: after the 17 between October 2006 and February 2007 and the 11 between January and April 2021.
BEST GOAL DIFFERENCE IN EUROPE
Inter leads in the table with 76 points thanks to 24 wins and 4 draws. Inter has scored 71 goals compared to only 14 conceded so far: this is by far the best goal difference in the top 5 European leagues this season, +57.
CLEAN SHEETS
Simone Inzaghi's side can add an extraordinary defence to their extraordinary offence. Yann Sommer has equalled the record for clean sheets kept by an Inter goalkeeper in a single Serie A season in the history of three points: 17. The record was established by Julio César in 2009/10 and equalled by Samir Handanovic in 2017/18 and in 2018/19.
