From one break to another: Nerazzurri stats and upcoming matches

Inter’s exciting run of matches, which saw them as the protagonists of two competitions, will now be put on pause for the international break. The seven games opened with the derby victory over AC Milan, the 5-1 win set them off on an exciting Serie A run that brought home 10 points in 5 games with the 3 wins over AC Milan, Empoli, and Salernitana and the draw against Bologna. Inzaghi’s men scd 13 goals and conceded only 5: these numbers, when added to those from the first three games, mean that Inter have the best attack and best defence in Serie A with 21 goals scored and 5 conceded. 

There are some important statistics concerning individual players: Lautaro Martinez is the top goalscorer of the tournament at the moment with 10 goals scored in 8 games. El Toro is only the third player in Inter’s history to reach double figures in the first 8 league matches, after Giuseppe Meazza (1935/36) and Antonio Valentin Angelillo (1958/59).

The Argentinian isn’t the only big name so far: Marcus Thuram, one of the new arrivals, has provided 5 assists in his first 8 starts in Serie A; no attacker has done the same in the last 20 seasons. Attack, but also defence: Yann Sommer has collected 5 clean sheets so far; no goalkeeper has done better than him.

Other than the league, Inter has been playing in the Champions League: the Nerazzurri started their campaign with a draw away to Real Sociedad, before returning to San Siro on matchday 2 to beat Benfica. 

After the break, Inter will have another 6 exciting matches ahead of them before the next international break in November: on Saturday 21 October the Nerazzurri will face Torino, whilst the Champions League will be back in Milano on Tuesday 24 for the game against Salzburg.
