— Feb 16th 2024Goals from Thuram, Lautaro, Dumfries and Arnautovic three more points for the Nerazzurri; Inzaghi’s side now have 63 points as they shift focus to their Champions League round of 16 tie with Atletico Madrid
Inter were irresistable as they beat Salernitana 4-0 at San Siro in the Friday-night game on matchday 25 of Serie A. Inzaghi’s side dominated proceedings, hitting the post, the bar, scoring two goals inside the first half and testing Ochoa on numerous occasions inside the first half an hour.
Inter opened the way in the space of just 86 seconds. In the 17th minute, Thuram swept the ball home from Carlos Augusto’s excellent assist. In the 19th minute, Lautaro beat Ochoa with a perfect finish from the edge of the box. Once Salernitana’s wall had crumbled, Inter kept up the intensity and added a third goal in the 40th minute; a brilliant team move led to Dumfries turning home from a few yards out.
The Nerazzurri controlled the second half. Ochoa made a couple more fine stops, Pavard attempted a so-nearly perfect bicycle kick. Buchanan came on for his debut as the game wound to a close and delighted San Siro with a pair of strong runs down the left. In the 90th minute, Dumfries drove forward again and set up Arnautovic to make it 4-0 with the last kick of the game.
Inter won and continued to extend their lead in the table. For now, though, all eyes are on Tuesday’s Champions League game against Atletico Madrid at San Siro.
