Inzaghi: 'Work and confidence: we're ready to give more'

On Saturday 1 October, Inter will return to the pitch to take on Roma in the eighth match of the Serie A 2022/23 season, with kick-off at 18:00 CEST at San Siro.

On the eve of the match, Simone Inzaghi met journalists in a press conference.

It's a big match: how do you go again after the break? "It will be a very demanding match, with many duels. Roma are a strong team, with quality. Thursday was the first day with the whole team: we analysed the Udine defeat and got to work for the San Siro match."

Much has been said about the team's mentality: did you experience a different atmosphere? "We know that the Udine defeat came about because of us: we were below our standards, we conceded penalties and corners that we shouldn't have conceded, as with the goals from set pieces. We must do more."

Is Asllani ready to play as a starter? "We chose him together with the club, against Roma he will start from the first minute. Right now we have Brozovic out, Gagliardini hasn't trained in the last two days, let's see if he will recover to make the bench at least."

Lukaku: how is he? "The staff are working to help him recover, but it will still take time".

Do you expect a change of pace from the team? "We have to do more and better. With Milan and Lazio we had to do better, we know that. Now we have another big match to win."

How important is it to feel the faith of the club? "The club is always there and supports us at all times. Where I coach, revenues increase, losses halve and trophies arrive. It was like that at Lazio, it has also happened at Inter. Now we are working to recover from this form, the feelings are positive after the last few training sessions. We have to let the football do the talking."

Does he feel at risk? "We coaches are always at risk. It always happens, at every club. But it's always the football that speaks: I'm calm, we work well every day. both staff and players."

How is Gosens? "I am happy that Robin has joined the national team again. On the left I have several options, I'll decide after training who to play between him, Darmian and Dimarco".

What is your relationship with Nerazzurri president Steven Zhang? "I have a very good relationship with President Zhang: he is always there, he makes his closeness felt. "

Is there something wrong within the team? "Here we are all going in the same direction, we are paying a lot for mistakes and episodes. Last year Inter entertained everyone with their fotball, right now as soon as we let our guard down we are punished. At this level every little slip is paid for. We have had a lot of criticism and it's normal, but the team is mature and knows that it must and can do more, from myself to the players. These are great professionals, we have confidence."

Roma: what do you expect? "It's a strong, physical team. We know what we'll face, we've played them many times. They have big players, their season's progress is good. We'll see who will turn up more prepared for the challenge."
