— Aug 13th 2023A Lautaro brace and goals from Barella and Stabile see the Nerazzurri emerge victorious at the Stadio Paolo Mazza in Ferrara
Inter ran out 4-2 winners against Egnatia in Ferrara thanks to a Lautaro brace and goals from Barella and Stabile. The Nerazzurri failed to find the net in the first half, during which Sherri produced numerous saves to preserve the Albanian side's 1-0 lead. Despite falling behind for a second time, Inzaghi's men continued to push and ended up scoring three late goals to come away with a victory.
The first half began poorly for the Nerazzurri as Dwamena found the net for Egnatia after just six minutes. Inter struggled to find any sort of rhythm early on but started to create one chance after another following an attempt from Lautaro in the 19th minute. Unfortunately for Inzaghi's men, they encountered a goalkeeper in top form. Barella had a go, as did Thuram (with his head) and Lautaro again. There were further efforts from Mkhitaryan and Barella, but Sherri said "no" each time. The shot-stopper's personal battle with El Toro continued as he somehow kept out a close-range header from the Argentine at the end of a first half that finished with Egnatia one to the good.
The Nerazzurri upped the tempo after the restart and equalised with 55 minutes on the clock: Bastoni played a long ball forward for Barella, who controlled it before firing across the goalkeeper and into the net with his right foot. Barella was once again involved shortly afterwards as he combined with Lautaro, whose shot didn't have enough power to beat Sherri. The Albanian outfit then went in front again in the 66th minute: Lautaro was penalised for handball and Medeiros stepped up to score the resulting penalty. The key moment of the match arrived in the 73rd minute when Inzaghi decided to make wholesale changes and send on eight players. After being foiled by Sherri once again in the 75th minute, Lautaro finally got on the scoresheet four minutes later, heading home a great cross from Lazaro. The Nerazzurri captain then scored his second of the game after 82 minutes, this time converting a penalty to give Inter the lead. Inzaghi's men managed the final moments of the friendly well and were able to extend their lead through Stabile, who netted his first first-team goal following a perfect Correa assist. It thus finished 4-2 to the Nerazzurri, who will begin their 2023/24 Serie A campaign when they face Monza at 20:45 CEST this coming Saturday at San Siro.
