The Nerazzurri social program once again at the UN headquarters in New York to talk about sport, development and peace

On the occasion of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace organised by the Department of Global Communications (DGC) in collaboration with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), Inter Campus was once again the host and leader of the day dedicated to the role of sport as a means to tackle climate change, promote gender equality and combat racial discrimination.

A day that saw important personalities from the world of sport and beyond discuss these issues at the United Nations headquarters in New York, as they have done in the past. Our Vice President and Inter Campus Ambassador Javier Zanetti and Silvio Guareschi, Psychologist and Technical Manager of Inter Campus brought the experience of the Nerazzurri's social project, which this year celebrates twenty-five years of activity, all over the world in favour of thousands of children.

“Yes, through sport we can change the world. It is not just us who teach children something, most of the time it is they who teach us. Often these are children who need affection, with problems, difficulties, but through the project we try to unite them and give them hope with a specific methodology of social work, so as to give them a sense of belonging. Football has great dimensions, which reaches everyone. We must transmit human values: fight against all forms of discrimination and do development projects wherever possible. This is the way to change the world.”

Javier Zanetti, Inter Vice President

“The project in Israel and Palestine opens up spaces for dialogue in contexts where conflict and violence are part of everyday life and, in particular, succeeds in stimulating peace dynamics and reconciliation efforts in Jerusalem, where initiatives for meetings and socialisation between Israeli and Palestinian children are promoted”

Silvio Guareschi, Psicologo e Technical Manager di Inter Campus

Over thirty children from the project in the United States, all from the Joseph Pulitzer school in Queens where Inter Campus works to promote ethnic integration, were able - wearing strictly black and blue shirts - to attend the day, meet Zanetti and visit the Glass Palace. For them, it was an emotional and unforgettable moment.

Finally, our delegation was engaged in some important institutional meetings: the one with Ambassador Maurizio Massari of the Italian Permanent Representation to the United Nations and the one with Fabrizio Di Michele, Consul General of Italy in New York, to strengthen and consolidate our common commitment. Commitment that Inter Campus deploys every day to protect the rights of thousands of children.
