The 'Goal Olimpico' from Asllani and his Nerazzurri predecessors
Team
— Dec 21st 2024The thoughts of the midfielder, who scored from a corner-kick against Udinese in the Coppa Italia
The predecessors are illustrious. Kristjan Asllani scored his first goal of the season against Udinese and did so in spectacular fashion, putting the ball into the back of the net directly from a corner-kick. A venomous and perfect trajectory, which made its way to the back post without any deflections: the goal which decided the match and made it 2-0. This type of goal, known as a "Gol Olímpico" was born in 1924. FIFA had just approved direct goals from corner-kicks. Months after, Cesareo Onzari, from Argentina, managed to score one in a friendly against Uruguay. As Uruguay were the reigning Olympic champions, the goal was then known as "olimpico". Before Asllani, in recent times, the only other players to have scored in this manner were Dejan Stankovic, Alvaro Recoba, Christian Eriksen e Hakan Calhanoglu. Dejan Stankovic's goal was particularly memorable as it was his first goal for Inter: as he scored on 21 February 2004 in AC Milan vs Inter. After Deki, Alvaro Recoba, who scored at San Siro in the match between Inter and Empoli on 29 April, 2007, marking his final goal for Inter. His left-footed piece of magic managed to deceive Bassi, capping off a true Inter party on the day of the celebration of our 15th Scudetto. In June 2020, in the Coppa Italia Semi Final against Napoli: Eriksen managed to float his corner-kick past Ospina, with a show stopping trajectory. Hakan Calhanoglu did the same at Stadio Olimpico against Roma on 4 December 2021.

“I have never scored directly from a corner. It was important to win though this evening and we are happy because we're building continuity in our results. Our group is fantastic, there's a great chemistry between us in the locker room, we often go out together and this always helps the results. I have to also thank Arnautovic for the support, because he is someone who always helps the younger players and he's fundamental for us. ”
