— Feb 10th 2024The thoughts of Inter's assistant coach after the 4-2 victory over Roma at the Olimpico
Inter staged a brilliant comeback to beat Roma at the Olimpico. Francesco Acerbi bagged the opener in the capital, only for the hosts to take a lead into half-time thanks to goals from Mancini and El Shaarawy. However, the Nerazzurri responded brilliantly after the break and quickly scored through Thuram, who was also involved as Angelino put through his own net. Finally, Bastoni sealed the win in stoppage time.
This is what assistant coach Massimiliano Farris had to say after the game:
“Roma started well, and we conceded two avoidable goals. However, the strength of this group then emerged: we stepped things up in the second half, took up the right positions and regained control. This is a group that might get it wrong for 20 minutes but then has the strength to get back on track. Playing at places like this is really difficult, including for a team with Inter’s numbers. In the second half, we made the most of the wing-backs, allowing us to move better. And then there was the fact that the boys displayed a lot of quality because it wasn’t an easy match. Keeping the other teams behind us is very important because we know that they’ll keep on going until the end. This evening, we showed our best qualities, and the lads embraced each other knowing that they’d produced a great performance. Arna and Sanchez made a great contribution, with Marko managing to provide an assist. The fact that we’ve killed off the match with an assist from a substitute is important. We’re not thinking about our Champions League tie against Atletico yet; first, we have to play Salernitana. Atletico are a fantastic team and we’ll analyse them calmly. The first leg will be at San Siro, where the fans have always really helped us.”
