Dzeko, 101 goals: "All goals are special, but it's the three points that count"

— Oct 8th 2022A decisive double for the Bosnian striker who earns Inter three points at Sassuolo
A complete game; two goals, that bring Inter three points, another a whisker away, lots of link-up play and lay-offs to his teammates. In a dominant display, Edin Dzeko led Inter to victory away at Sassuolo in what is a happy hunting ground for him with six goals in Serie A scored at the Mapei; only at San Siro and Olimpico in Rome has he got more.
This double takes Dzeko to 101 goals scored in Serie A: 85 for Roma, 16 with Inter.
He becomes the oldest player to have scored more than one goal in a game for Inter in Serie A, jumping ahead of Sinisa Mihajlovic in 2005 against Roma. He is also now the third oldest player to reach 100 league goals in the history of Serie A (36 years old and 205 days), behind Goran Pandev (37 years and 268 days, 21/04/2021) and Sergio Pellissier (37 years and 243 days, 11/12/2016). Since his Serie A debut in the 2015/2016 season, only Immobile (160) has scored more goals in the competition than Edin Dzeko (101).
“All goals are special, from the first one against Juventus to the ones today. One of the best is definitely the left-footed strike against Torino. But all goals are important. Scoring is the best feeling, when the ball goes over the goalline you are the happiest man on earth. I'll keep going until I have something to contribute to the team. Obviously, reaching 100 goals is very special, I'll offer the whole team dinner. This is a very important win: we should give merit to Sassuolo, it's not easy to come here and win. We weren't brilliant today but we dug in and showed we wanted it and this was the thing that has given us the three points to take home. Before the game, we said to ourselves we mustn't get down when we're in difficult periods in a game. Today, we suffered but remained together, we wanted this win badly and we won it with great fight and spirit. Romelu? We're not in competition with each other. In the big teams, there are always great strikers. The only thing that's important is winning, not who plays.”
