The night in Madrid, 14 years later
Legends
— May 22nd 2024Milito's brace, captain Zanetti lifting the cup, the dawn celebration at San Siro. The memories of a legendary day
Some nights remain forever in our hearts and memories. All Inter fans remember perfectly well 22 May 2010. They know how they spent the day, they know how they spent the hours before the match against Bayern Munich, they know with whom they watched the Champions League final and how they celebrated at the final whistle.
At the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid, Inter wrote one of the most beautiful pages in its history, capping off a legendary season with a triumphant month of May. The victory in the Coppa Italia on 5 May against Roma, the 18th Scudetto won in Siena on 16 May, and a Treble completed that night against Bayern Munich.
A common theme in all three triumphs was that of Prince Diego Alberto Milito, the decisive hero in the most important matches. His brace against Bayern is a showcase of technique, character, and a tremendous desire to win: two goals that bring Inter to paradise.
The goals, the celebration, the tears, the transfigured expression on Captain Javier Zanetti's face as he lifts the cup to the sky. Images that have become works of art, hung in the gallery of Nerazzurri masterpieces.
An unstoppable celebration that brought thousands of Nerazzurri fans to San Siro, waiting until dawn for that magnificent cup. A night that never ended, just like the emotions we experienced throughout that long day 14 years ago.
