The moment to take the field in Madrid against Atletico is drawing nearer: on the eve of the return leg match of the Champions League round of sixteen, Federico Dimarco accompanied Simone Inzaghi in the press conference held at the Civitas Metropolitano stadium:
How do you prepare for a match against an opponent who has declared they'll play to the death? "We know Atletico's strength: they are a formidable team, and we are aware of their history in the Champions League. We will take the field to play our game as we did in the first leg."
Are you prepared for a particular match in terms of the atmosphere? "It will be a tough match, but we had the advantage of our fans at San Siro, they will have it here. We know their strength and we know they perform their best at home."
What kind of match will it be? Different from the first leg? "It will be difficult like all Champions League matches; we have a narrow 1-0 lead: tomorrow, we must not make mistakes in our approach."
How do you feel at this moment? "I am extremely happy with what I am doing and especially with what the team is achieving; it's something extraordinary. I hope to unlock myself in the Champions League as well."
Last year, you struggled in the only round with the away leg; have you worked psychologically on this? "In the Champions League, playing at home or away changes relatively; if we approach the matches with the same mentality we have in home games, we won't have problems even away."
Is there the same desire as last year to go all the way, considering the path in the league as well? "The desire is definitely there, but what we do in the league stays there; in the Champions League, everything resets: tomorrow, we must take the field and play our game."
