Speed, technique and class: the characteristics of a special player who was took centre stage during a legendary era in Inter’s history. Indeed, Jair da Costa was the number 7 of the Grande Inter side. He was unstoppable down the right flank, with his bursts forward making him one of the most important members of Helenio Herrera’s team.
Born on 9 July 1940 in Santo André, Brazil, Jair wore the Nerazzurri colours for nine seasons before leaving Italy in 1972. During this period, the Brazilian scored 69 goals in 260 appearances for Inter, with whom he won four Scudetto titles, two European Cups and two Intercontinental Cups.
It was an extraordinary era filled with unforgettable triumphs. Among these was the Scudetto of the First Star in 1965/66 and the European Cup in 1964/65, with Jair bagging the winner in the final against Benfica at San Siro.
