— Apr 9th 2025Facts, figures and standout performances by Inzaghi's side at the Fußball Arena in Munich: the Nerazzurri's win puts an end to Bayern's four-year long unbeaten run at home in the competition
There was so much quality and power on show in the incredible night in Munich that gave Nerazzurri fans a night to remember. There was the perfectly constructed goal, beginning with Sommer, and finished off by Thuram and Lautaro's synergy following Bastoni and Carlos Augusto's incredible work on the wing. And then there were the relentless battles for every ball, the focus and the discipline in defence, as well as the midfield's tireless work, putting it all in. Müller's goal in the final five minutes lit up the Fußball Arena and the 75,000 Bayern fans, but this wasn't enough to keep Inter's drive and passion at bay. Frattesi's cry is sheer proof of this, with the assist from the wing coming from Carlos Augusto once again, and his celebration was everything. The Nerazzuri's effort can be seen in the numbers: in the last four years (22 matches) Bayern Munich were unbeaten in the Champions League at home, but this came to an end because of the superb performance by Inzaghi's boys.
LAUTARO: QUALITY AND QUANTITY
The team's performance had all the elements for an unforgettable match, and the captain's game was a real mix of quality and quantity. The Argentinian striker's goal was a perfect example of this, with his grit coming into play earlier on in the move when he won his aerial duel, then bursting into the box, receiving the ball off Thuram with his deft touch, and slotting home, past Urbig. This was Lautaro's seventh goal in the Champions League this season: the last player to score seven goals in one campaign was Samuel Eto’o in 2010/11 (eight). He has now scored 22 goals for Inter in Europe's top football competitions, level with Roberto Boninsegna, and only Alessandro Altobelli has scored more for the Nerazzurri in these tournaments (35).
FRATTESI: A SPECIAL GOAL
Frattesi's goal was pure emotion, the seal on a game that was won with great football, but also determination and drive. Barella showed his quality, picking out the untiring and hungry Carlos Augusto, who made all Inter fans full of joy. Frattesi is the first Italian, Inter player to score against Bayern Munich in the Champions League: no midfielder in Serie A has scored more goals from the bench than him in the last two seasons in all competitions (six).
FROM INTER TO INTER
The last Italian side to win at Bayern Munich in the Champions League was indeed Inter, in the Round of 16 in 2011 (3-2). From then on, Italian sides have lost seven games in a row, conceding at least two goals each time.
