During yesterday's pre-match press conference, Alessandro Bastoni said it'd be a difficult match where Inter would have to be compact and united and display all their passion. This is exactly what the Nerazzurri did as they emerged victorious from tonight's quarter-final first-leg showdown in the Champions League.
The MVP from the match, the Nerazzurri defender, who provided a perfect assist for Barella's opener, had the following to say following the victory in Lisbon:
“We believe in our abilities. We also played well in our last few matches but have perhaps been missing a ruthless edge, something we rediscovered tonight. This is who we are. We knew that we’d need to be compact and united to beat Benfica. We produced a great team performance, constantly helping each other out. The assist? It’s something I ask of myself all the time because I know I possess the qualities to do these things. I’m happy that I was able to help the team. The real Inter? We need to find the right balance, but this is a great group and we’re delighted.”
