— Oct 30th 2023The second inclusion in France Football's final list for both players
The 67th edition of the Ballon d'Or has now concluded, with Lionel Messi picking up the award for the eighth time. Inter's Lautaro Martínez and Nicolò Barella were included in the list of the 30 finalists. Yesterday, Monday 30th, France Football unveiled the final rankings for the Ballon d'Or: Lautaro finished in 20th place and Barella in 27th. André Onana (23rd), now of Manchester United, was also on the final list.
This is the second inclusion for both Lautaro and Barella among the Ballon d'Or finalists after inclusions in 2021 following Inter claiming Scudetto number 19.
The 30 candidates were chosen by the editorial teams at France Football and L'Équipe along with Didier Drogba, as the ambassador for the Ballon d'Or, and one journalist outside of the 100 voters, who received the honour for guessing the podium in the previous edition.
LAUTARO MARTÍNEZ
Inter centre-forward Lautaro Martínez came 20th in the 2022/23 Ballon d'Or rankings, as per the verdict from Paris during the ceremony for the 67th edition of the prestigious award. He came 21st in 2021.
France Football's reasoning for naming him as a candidate is as follows:
NICOLÒ BARELLA
Nicolò Barella was placed 27th in the list of Ballon d'Or finalists for the 2022/23 season. This is the second time the Italian midfielder has appeared on the final list: he was 26th in 2021.
Here's why France Football decided to nominate Barella:
