The story of Arturo Cohen: the technical manager of the Inter Campus in the Holy Land, and the Abu Tor project, home of football for Israeli and Palestinian children

I'm 29 years-old, and for nine years I've been living in the most complex and fascinating city in the world. A place that is sacred for so many, and has always been disputed: the eternal Jerusalem. There are lots of positions on the Israel-Palestine conflict, multi-faceted interpretations on the course of history, but one thing is certain: the permanent cultural and religious bond with this city. There is the Western Wall in remembrance of the historic destruction; the Temple Mount where the Prophet Muhammad arrived from Mecca; and the Church of the Nativity, that represents the crucifixion, anointing, burial and resurrection of Jesus. Centuries of history, with the combination of shared peace and prosperity, and countless wars, segregation and tyranny. A city that continues to be disputed, divided in some areas by a wall, and in others by a non-existent wall: but one that is so present and tangible.

Where the city fails is its inability to act as a glue for its diverse population; it's referred to differently by its conflicting people, desperate for absolute control. In the wake of unity and overcoming borders and fear, the Intern Campus was set up in the Abu Tor district, the East of Jerusalem, where Israelis and Palestinians, Jews, Muslims and Catholics, play with one another to try and turn over a new page in history, in contrast with the last few years filled with war. It's a base that's built upon sharing and respect, where parents and children, together in a unique community in the colours of the Nerazzurri, try to overcome the burden of history and fear and prepare a future of peace.

It's a place where football, in its hypnotic power on children and driving force for adults, tries to be the educational method for a changing reality. And there isn't a more emotional moment than the end-of-season visit from our friends in Milan, who bring new footballing and educational insights and a great desire to grow as one. And it's when Chiara and Silvio are on the pitch that we all feel part of something bigger, something unique. A worldwide family, that with Inter comes the real side of football: not based on profit, but for the well-being of people, that tries to unite and not divide, that is played with diversity, and takes it onto the pitch to understand it and appreciate it. Over 60 children, from between the ages of 9 and 14, bring their cultural background to the pitch, their link with this incredibly complicated city, and the magic of the Inter Campus, converting it all into unity and healthy togetherness.

They are Mohammed and Noam, contemporaries in their thirties, one Palestinian and the other Israeli, demonstrating that another world is still possible.
