On 21 March 1961, a champion destined to leave his mark on Nerazurri fans, was born. Lothar Matthäus represented Inter from 1988 to 1992 with his physical power, refined technique and leadership skills. He made 153 appearances and scored 53 goals in that time. His ability to lead the team was key in the record-breaking Scudetto of 1988/89, in the Italian Supercup of 1989 and in the 1991 UEFA Cup. Some of his most unforgettable moments include his free-kick against Napoli in the Scudetto race as well as his penalty against Roma in the UEFA Cup final. In 1990, after a great performance in the World Cup for Germany, Matthäus won the Ballon d'Or, which he raised to the sky in front of the Nerazzurri fans. His love for Inter was sealed with his admission into the Club's Hall of Fame, a recognition of his extraordinary talent.
