Inter legend Giacinto Facchetti was born on 18 July 81 years ago

MILANO – A unique, unforgettable figure, who had passion, talent and humility in equal measure. Giacinto Facchetti was born on 18 July 1942. His story is intertwined with the history of this Club. That story began in 1961 when he made his Serie A debut in an Inter shirt. Though he started out as a forward, Helenio Herrera converted him into a full-back. From that moment on, Giacinto revolutionised the role, becoming the prototype modern left-back of a new era. He was alert and solid in defence but devastating in attack as well. He scored 75 goals in 634 games, proof that he was an added attacker. With Inter, he won five Scudetti, two European Cups, two Intercontinental Cups and one Coppa Italia, becoming a Club legend in the process. He was a great player and a great man, on and off the pitch; his example and his memory are still with us today and have remained in the collective mindset of the Nerazzurri's fans.
