— Mar 21st 2023The German Ballon d’Or winner and Inter Hall of Famer turns 62 today
Power, tecnica excellence and charisma. Lothar Matthäaus perfectly encapsulated these traits during his time at Inter. Our former midfielder turns 62 today. His stint at the Club began in the summer of 1988 and he stayed with the Nerazzurri until 1992. He immediately felt like a part of the Club, returning the fans’ love for him. He scored 53 goals in 153 appearances for the Nerazzurri, some of which were key in the Club’s league title in 1989, Supercoppa title and the 1991 UEFA Cup. Particularly memorable were the free-kick in the title-winning game against Napoli and the penalty against Roma in the first leg at San Siro as Inter won the UEFA Cup for the first time in the Club’s history. Finally, he was recognised a true footballing great in 1990 when he was awarded the Ballon d’Or, which he proudly showed off to the fans, who then voted him into the Inter Hall of Fame on the anniversary of 110 years since our founding.
From all of us here at FC Internazionale Milano, we would like to wish Lothar Matthäus a very happy birthday.
