— May 16th 2022Stats and facts from Inter's 3-1 win over Cagliari
Lautaro Martinez and Matteo Darmian were the goalscorers as Inter last night claimed a 3-1 triumph away at Cagliari. The three points picked up mean that the Nerazzurri now sit on 81 with one game to go and Inter will end the season this weekend at home at San Siro against Sampdoria.
LAUTARO’S RECORD
The Argentine hit a brace against Cagliari meaning he’s now on 25 goals for the season, a personal best. He’s the sixth player in the history of the club under the age of 25 who has struck 20 or more goals in Serie A in a single campaign, joining an illustrious list featuring Giuseppe Meazza, Stefano Nyers, Antonio Angelillo, Ronaldo, and Mauro Icardi.
The 24-year-old has 21 goals in the Italian top flight this season, as well as a few in other competitions. He’s been in terrific form of late which is evidenced by the stats: since the start of March he’s scored ten times in Serie A, more than any other player.
Cagliari are Lautaro’s favourite opponent: he’s found the net eight times against the Sardinians, with Alessio Cragno the unfortunate keeper on seven of these occasions. His brace at the Unipol Domus was his seventh for the Nerazzurri, six of which have come in Serie A. He also struck a double against Sunday evening’s opponents back in December.
PERISIC’S ASSISTS
After playing a key role in Inter’s Coppa Italia victory by scoring twice Ivan Perisic was once again on top form, providing an assist for Darmian to nod in the opener against Cagliari. The Croat now has nine assists for the season, and six in his last ten games since March.
Since making his Inter debut Perisic has set up a total of 45 goals in all competitions, including 37 in Serie A.
Assists for Italian clubs since 2014: Ivan Perisic 45, Marcelo Brozovic 38, Antonio Candreva 28.
Assists in Serie A since 2004: Maicon 42, Dejan Stankovic 39, Ivan Perisic 37.
DARMIAN, NICOLO BARELLA AND MISCELLANEOUS INFO
Matteo Darmian has scored the first goal in the last two games in which Inter have faced Cagliari in the second half of the season. This includes a matchwinner at San Siro last season. Cagliari are the only opponent against which Darmian has scored more than one goal, registering two.
Barella provided his 11th assist in Sunday evening’s game, more than any other Inter player in Serie A in 2021/22.
The Cagliari match was the first time Inter had hit the post three times in a Serie A match since 21 September 2019 when they faced Milan.
