MILAN - Inter looked cool and collected as they faced Jose Mourinho’s Roma side on Saturday. Stefan de Vrij was brilliant in central defence as he managed to nullify the threat posed by Tammy Abraham and lead the Nerazzurri back line to a composed performance. Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s consolation goal for Roma was the only dampener on what was a great display.
The Dutch defender was full of praise for his side’s performance. “The win today gives us three crucial points against a great team. We were good at keeping our head in the game, showing quality in our attacking play. Let’s take each game as it comes and not look too far ahead. We’ve got the right attitude. We showed that we are united, with good spirit.
“We are aware of the opportunity that we have in front of us and you can see that in how much we want to win. We knew that it was practically a must-win game. Roma are great on the counter-attack but our defensive play was organised and worked well.
“I’m doing better. After coming back from injury, I’ve now played two games in four days. It was important to re-find my rhythm and consistency. It’s important to always give your all.”
