MILAN – The Italian’s low right-footed cross just three minutes into the derby was hammered home in style by Lautaro Martinez to put Inter into an early lead that they never looked like relinquishing in the Coppa Italia semi-final second leg. Matteo Darmian spoke to Inter TV after the 3-0 win over Milan about the importance of reaching the Coppa Italia final for the club.
“We wanted to reach the final because that’s the sort of target that a big club like Inter has. We’re thrilled about that. We turned in a top performance, but we knew it wouldn’t be easy. We couldn’t afford to concede a goal and Milan have some fantastic attacking players. We did well to dig in at the right time.
“We wanted to make a strong start and managed to do just that. We showed our competitive nature and ability to manage key points in the game. We didn’t lose heart during the tougher moments and controlled the match throughout.
“I wouldn’t say that I’m underrated. I just try to work hard every day, looking to improve and being ready when I’m called upon, be it for 90 minutes or one minute. The aim is always to help the team and I’ll leave the evaluation of my performances to others.”
