LA SPEZIA – The Nerazzurri have now won three games on the spin after overcoming Spezia 3-1 away from home in the first game of Serie A Matchday 33. Inter opened the scoreline through a lovely Marcelo Brozovic volley, set up by Danilo D’Ambrosio’s intelligent knock-down. Lautaro Martinez then doubled Inter’s lead but Giulio Maggiore made it a tense finale before Alexis Sanchez wrapped up the game for the Nerazzurri in added time.
After the match Inter boss Simone Inzaghi spoke to DAZN and gave his thoughts on this evening’s encounter:
“We kept out heads; we were always in the game and it wasn’t straightforward. We were up against a team on decent form in a stadium which has given Spezia a real boost this season. We knew that we had to put in a big performance; it’s a huge win which we were keen to get in order to keep our run of form going.
Inzaghi commented on the performance of the Nerazzurri’s midfielders: “Spezia man-marked Marcelo Brozovic, firstly with Viktor Kovalenko and then with Kevin Agudelo. Hakan Calhanoglu often dropped back to give us another option there and played great, as did Nicolo Barella. He was a real menace for Spezia, always moving in between the lines.”
Regarding the opening goal, the Nerazzurri coach revealed: “Yesterday at the end of training I told Marcelo that he should take more shots in order to get back among the goals. That’s exactly what he did tonight; he scored and we’re happy because it was a very important match for us. Since the start of the season we’ve always tried to put a defender in the opposition’s box. Danilo D'Ambrosio is capable of going forward and contributing in this way and he played a big role in Brozovic’s goal."
Regarding Stefan de Vrij and Alessandro Bastoni’s fitness, the boss mentioned: "De Vrij was ready to play; yesterday he took part in full training with the team, but I’ve also got D'Ambrosio and Federico Dimarco who’ve always done well when called upon. Stefan was fine during the game and Bastoni just suffered from cramps. We hope to have them all available for Tuesday because we’ve got another huge match ahead of us.”
