APPIANO GENTILE – Simone Inzaghi has called on his men to produce a "real Inter performance" when they take on Hellas Verona at the weekend. Igor Tudor's side visit the Meazza for a 18:00 CEST kick-off on Saturday evening.
This is what the coach had to say to Inter TV ahead of the game:
Has last week's victory over Juventus given your team fresh impetus going into the business end of the season?
“It was a hugely important win for many reasons – we were up against a great team and a direct rival. It means we remain hot on the heels of the sides at the top and can have our say in the season finale.”
Inter showed they can 'win ugly' last weekend. Is that another sign your team have improved?
“We have everything we need to win any sort of match. We did well in Turin by digging in as a team when we needed to – that's what enabled us to win the game.”
Verona are one of the surprise packages this season and a very different side to the one you faced in August. What sort of game are you expecting?
“It's a massive match for us and it's going to be tough because Verona play at incredible intensity and have quality players. We'll need to produce a real Inter performance.”
Lautaro Martinez is suspended for this one but you're not short on options. How important is that?
“We won't have Lautaro tomorrow but I'm lucky to have [Edin] Dzeko, [Joaquin] Correa, [Felipe] Caicedo and [Alexis] Sanchez fit and available. They're training well and I think they'll all get to play at some point. But regardless of our forwards, we're going to need a big performance from the whole team.”
A huge crowd is expected – how important will their support be in the run-in?
“It's crucial. I'll never stop thanking the fans because they've made such a difference all season long and I'm sure they'll be right there behind us all the way.”
