TURIN - Sunday night saw the Nerazzurri bring home three points from a trip to Juventus for the first time in nearly ten years. The last time they managed to do so was in 2012, when goals from Diego Milito and Rodrigo Palacio sealed a 1-3 victory. This time, it was Hakan Calhanoglu’s penalty that proved decisive as Inter won 0-1 in Turin.
The Nerazzurri were under the cosh, especially in the first half, as they tried to contain Juventus, who looked dangerous in attack. Massimiliano Allegri’s men went close on a number of occasions in the first 45, as Giorgio Chiellini hit the bar in the mix-up after a cross and as Paulo Dybala and Juan Cuadrado hit efforts from distance, but Marcelo Brozovic and Danilo D’Ambrosio managed to put in some great blocks.
On 44 minutes, Inter were awarded a penalty after the VAR judged there to have been a foul from Alvaro Morata (and Alex Sandro) on Denzel Dumfries. Calhanoglu’s first effort was saved, but the ball ended up in the back of the net via a Juventus player. The referee Massimiliano Irrati stopped the game and decided that the penalty should be retaken. Calhanoglu opted to go for the same corner, but this time he put it away to make it 0-1.
The Bianconeri were still on top in the second half, as Denis Zakaria hit the post and Dusan Vlahovic had a few attempts. In the final period, Inter failed to capitalise on some chances through Arturo Vidal and Joaquin Correa, but they came away with three crucial points.
