La Roja’s loss to Uruguay extinguishes their World Cup hopes

Alexis Sanchez and Arturo Vidal started the game as Chile fell to a 2-0 loss on home soil at the hands of Uruguay at the Estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo on Tuesday and saw their hopes of reaching the World Cup fade. The forward played the full 90 minutes while the midfielder was replaced in the 81st minute. Luis Suarez and Federico Valverde bagged the goals on the night.

Joaquin Correa was an unused substitute as Argentina drew 1-1 away to Ecuador. The final standings in the South American qualifiers show that Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador and Uruguay have booked their tickets to the World Cup in Qatar, while Peru will be in play-off action against the winner of Australia’s meeting with the UAE.
