APPIANO GENTILE – Inter will take to the San Siro pitch at 18:00 CET on Saturday in Serie A Week 30 to face Fiorentina, with Simone Inzaghi previewing the clash in an interview with Inter TV on Friday afternoon.
The team is back in action after the draw at Torino. How much desire is there to get back to winning ways? “There’s certainly a feeling that we’ve picked up fewer points than we deserve in the current period, but the right desire has been there. The players have been working so hard. They really want to get back out there and we’ll need an intelligent and clear-headed performance.”
Inter have played 15 times since the turn of the year. How important will it be to have more time to prepare for games during the business end of the season? “Having more days to prepare for games certainly helps because you can work on situations that haven’t gone well and on the fine details, but we’re Inter. We reached the knockout stage of the Champions League and we’re still in the Coppa Italia, so our wish is to play often because that means we’ve been competitive throughout the year.”
The team performances have been consistently good. Is that a sign of how strong this squad is? “As a coach, I’d be more worried if I could see the team not performing or making chances. Of course, we have to be sure to approach games in the right way and ensure that the key moments go our way so that we can be in control on the pitch.”
What are you expecting from Fiorentina? “We’re up against a side that’s on the up and is having a good season. Their coach has wonderful ideas and has really left his mark on the team. We’ve worked hard this week to ensure we’re ready, knowing that we’ll be up against a very good side.”
There are 11 games to go this season, six of which will be in front of the San Siro faithful. Do you think that could be a decisive factor? “Our fans have been behind us all season long. They’ve always turned up in their droves for home and away games and we’re just focused on making them happy and proud to watch their team on the pitch.”
