Team
— Mar 14th 2022The key facts and figures from the draw away to Torino
Alexis Sanchez’s goal deep into stoppage time against Torino ensured Inter picked up a fourth consecutive draw on the road for the first time since 2004 under Roberto Mancini when the team broke the record for stalemates, racking up six in a row away from home. The draw with Ivan Juric’s side saw a shift in the league table on a weekend when AC Milan, Napoli and Juventus all won. The Nerazzurri now sit in third place with a game in hand on the three sides around them. Milan are on 63 points, Napoli have 60, Inter have 59 and Juve are three behind on 56.
THE DRAW WITH TORINO: BERISHA’S KEY ROLE
Inter ended up having 14 efforts on goal against Torino, seven of which were on target. The hosts racked up 13 attempts themselves, only four of which tested Samir Handanovic, with the shotstopper doing well to keep out Andrea Belotti and Armando Izzo. Etrit Berisha played a key role for Torino by denying Lautaro Martinez, Hakan Calhanoglu, Federico Dimarco and Arturo Vidal with a string of stunning stops.
INTER’S ATTACK: SANCHEZ SCORES, DZEKO ASSISTS
Despite playing one game fewer than the teams around them, Inter still boast the most potent attack in the division with 61 goals scored. The Nerazzurri registered 34 goals in the first 15 games of the 2021/22 season in all competitions, but that figure has dwindled to 20 in the last 15 matches since January.
Alexis Sanchez has made a key contribution to the team with seven goals so far this term. This third league goal came in the 93rd minute on Sunday evening against Torino. The Chilean has been involved in seven goals against Torino in Serie A, scoring twice and providing five assists. This makes the club his preferred opponent in the Italian top flight.
The man who set him up with the perfect assist, Edin Dzeko, is the oldest player to have provided at least five assists in Serie A in 2021/22 at 35. Luka Modric, 36, is the only current footballer older than him in Europe’s top five leagues to have made five passes leading to goals.
Milan Skriniar made his 200th Serie A appearance against Torino. Since his bow in the competition back on 24 April 2016 for Sampdoria, the only defender to have played more games in Serie A is Francesco Acerbi (205).
