Simone Inzaghi’s decision to send on the Chilean in the second half away to Torino allowed Alexis Sanchez to mark his 100th appearance for Inter in all competitions with an equaliser in the third minute of stoppage time in Serie A Week 29. What better way to celebrate reaching such a significant milestone?
The strike was Alexis’s 18th goal for the club since joining from Manchester United on 29 August 2019. The forward’s return to Italy brought back memories of his three seasons at Udinese between 2008 and 2011, after which he had spells at Barcelona, Arsenal and the Red Devils.
Sanchez’s maiden goal for the Nerazzurri came in a 3-1 win over Sampdoria. His end-of-season tally read four goals in 32 appearances.
In 2020/21, he made a big impact in the second half of the campaign as Inter romped to the Scudetto, which included a key brace by the Chilean away to Parma.
In the current campaign, crucial assists have regularly featured, while the control and finish in stoppage time at the end of extra time against Juventus to clinch the Italian Super Cup will live long in the memory.
In total, Sanchez has now made 100 appearances for Inter in all competitions: 72 in Serie A, including 14 goals, ten in the Coppa Italia and two goals, 12 in the Champions League with one goal, five in the Europa League and one Italian Super Cup appearance that he marked with a winner at the death.
