LIVERPOOL - Milan Skriniar put in a world-class display for Inter in Tuesday night’s Champions League match at Anfield. The Nerazzurri fought hard to stay in the competition, and none more so than the Slovakian defender, but it was unfortunately to no avail. Despite Inter's win on the night, Liverpool came out on top over the two legs.
Skriniar gave everything, blocking anything that came his way, snuffing out Liverpool’s attacks and helping the side move forward from the back. In recognition of his efforts, he was handed UEFA’s Man of the Match prize, but it was a bittersweet reward as the game sealed Inter’s fate in the competition.
He told Mediaset that despite their exit, he was proud of the team’s performance. “We’re really sorry to go out of the competition, but we can leave with our heads held high. We showed a lot of character.
“We believed in ourselves, especially after Lautaro got the goal. Unfortunately, Sanchez’s sending off happened straight afterwards, and it’s never easy to be a man down at Anfield.”
Speaking of his team-mates who went off injured, Skriniar commented: “I hope that Stefan De Vrij and Marcelo Brozovic have not done anything serious. They are two crucial players for this side.
“Now, we have to focus on the league and Coppa Italia. This performance will help us grow.”
