MILAN - On Tuesday at 21:00 CET Inter take on AC Milan in the semi-final first leg of the Coppa Italia Frecciarossa.
The Nerazzurri reached the semi-finals by beating Empoli and Roma in the last 16 and quarter-finals. Stefano Pioli’s team meanwhile beat Genoa and Lazio.
It will be the 26th Coppa Italia meeting between the two sides and the 231st Milan derby in all competitions. In head-to-head results Inter have the advantage with 84 wins to 78 and there have also been 68 draws. Specifically in the cup, the Rossoneri lead the head-to-head with 10 wins to eight and there have also been seven draws.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
The last Coppa Italia meeting between these clubs was during the 2020/21 season. Inter got the better of their opponents thanks to a goal from Romelu Lukaku and a Christian Eriksen free-kick which took them into the semi-finals of the competition.
At the semi-final stage there is only one previous encounter dating back to the 1984/85 campaign - a match which turned in Milan’s favour. The Rossoneri reached the final after beating Inter 2-1 in the first leg (Karl-Heinz Rummenigge scored Inter’s goal), and then drawing 1-1 in the second leg.
Inter have won five of their last eight matches against Milan in the Coppa Italia (D1, L2). They have also found the back of the net in their last nine meetings with the Rossoneri in all competitions whilst taking home the victory on six occasions (D1, L2).
PREVIOUS FIXTURES IN MILAN
The first leg of the semi-final will be played at home for Milan and Inter are undefeated in all competitions in the last five derbies away from home (W3, D2). After drawing 1-1 last November in Serie A, Milan and Inter could play out back-to-back draws in all competitions away in Milan for the first time since the 1992/93 season.
GENERAL STATS
After beating Empoli and Roma in the last 16 and quarter-finals of the competition, Inter could win three games in a row in the Coppa Italia for the first time since 12 January 2011 when they achieved a run of seven consecutive victories. The last eight goals scored in the competition by the Nerazzurri have been scored by different players. The only player during that time to have scored more than one is Alexis Sanchez, who has returned in the two Coppa Italia matches this season.
Milan’s only defeat in their last eight Coppa Italia matches was that 2-1 loss to Inter last season. They won four of the other seven and have drawn three.

Since coming to Italy, Edin Dzeko has found the net five times against Milan in all competitions (all with Roma), with four of those coming at the Meazza.
Stefan de Vrij has struck twice against the Rossoneri in all competitions – his joint highest tally against any team in an Inter shirt (two against Torino as well).
