MILAN – Inter are gearing up for their 110th Serie A meeting with Genoa, with the game scheduled for a 21:00 CET kick-off this Friday.
Ahead of the Week 27 fixture, we've picked out five facts about previous match-up...
STANKOVIC'S WONDER STRIKE
There's one match against Genoa that Nerazzurri fans remember fondly – both for the scoreline (0-5) and the stunning goal scored by Dejan Stankovic. It was in November of the treble season when Deki unleashed the full extent of his firepower from out wide on the halfway line, catching Marco Amelia's clearance on the volley and sending it straight back goalwards and into the net. In many ways it was the precursor to the similar and arguably even more famous volley he scored against Schalke 04.
D’AMBROSIO THE LAST SCORER AT THE FERRARIS
The last time Inter visited Genoa, goals by Romelu Lukaku and Danilo D’Ambrosio secured three points for Antonio Conte's side. The defender has scored two goals against Genoa for Inter – both of them headers. The other one was a late winner in a 1-0 victory at the Meazza on 24 September 2017.
NAGATOMO'S FIRST FOR INTER
Genoa were the opposition when Yuto Nagatomo broke his Nerazzurri duck in a 5-2 win at San Siro back in March 2011. The much-loved Japanese full-back repeated the trick the following season at the Ferraris, on 13 December. Nagatomo also found the net against the Rossoblu – another header – on the opening day of the 2013/14 season.
GAGLIARDINI AGAINST GENOA: DEBUT AND BRACES
Roberto Gagliardini is the current Inter player with the most Serie A goals (five) against Genoa to his name. The Italian midfielder has scored both of his braces in the top flight against the side from Liguria, back in November 2018 and April 2019, while he also made his Serie A debut against the same opponents as an Atalanta player at the Ferraris in May 2016.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS
Inter’s biggest victory away to Genoa to date was that 5-0 rout on 17 October 2009. Esteban Cambiasso and Mario Balotelli got on the scoresheet before Dejan Stankovic struck a mesmerising right-footed volley from the halfway line to put the visitors three goals ahead at the interval. Patrick Vieira and Maicon added gloss to the scoreline in the second half at the Ferraris.
