Facts and figures ahead of Saturday's 18:00 kick-off against Milan


MILAN – Who was the last player to net a brace in a derby match? Which Inter player made their debut and provided five assists against Milan? How many times have both teams scored, placing them first and second in Serie A this season for goals?

The answers are the following: Lautaro Martinez, Ivan Perisic, 53 and 47 goals between them: Ahead of the #DerbyMilano on Saturday 5 February we take a look at all the stats and facts so that you are fully up to speed with goings-on ahead of the match.

GENERAL STATS

Saturday's game at San Siro sees Serie A's two best attacks face each other: Inter have scored 53 times while Milan have 47. Both teams have also held the lead for more minutes than any other side, while Inter have only been behind in the scoreline for a total of 62 minutes at home; a better record than any other Serie A team.

The Nerazzurri are the best side in the division for sharing out their goals among their players so far this season in Serie A. There have been 16 different Inter scorers, a record shared with Atalanta. City rivals Milan are one behind in this regard with 15. Inter also top the headed goals scoring chart on 14 while Milan have an exemplary record when it comes to avoiding conceding goals in this manner. The Rossoneri have let in two headers; only Atalanta better them at this with a tally of one.

Inter (19) and Milan (18) are the two teams to have scored the most goals in the final half an hour of games so far this season. Only Empoli and Juventus (11) have claimed more points than the Milan teams (nine apiece) through goals scored after the 60th minute.

The Nerazzurri are the most prolific Serie A team when it comes to set pieces, finding the net 17 times from dead ball situations. Milan are third on the list on 14, with Napoli on 16 inbetween the Milan clubs.

PREVIOUS ENCOUNTERS

Saturday's game will be the 176th time Inter and Milan have faced each other in Serie A: over the Nerazzurri come out on top with 67 wins to the Rossoneri's 52, with the rest of the 52 encounters ending all-square. No team has beaten Milan more than Inter, and in the process the former have conceded 247 goals.

Inter have only lost once in their last 11 Serie A clashes against Milan, winning six and drawing four times in the process. Over this series of matches Milan only kept a clean sheet on one occasion.

27 Milan derbies have ended 1-1; the most common scoreline for these two teams when they face each other. This very result happened earlier this campaign.

PREVIOUS ENCOUNTERS WITH INTER HOSTING

Inter have 'hosted' Milan 87 times in Serie A, winning 33 times with the Rossoneri picking up 24 victories, the rest being draws.

FORM BOOK

Since the start of the 2020/21 season Inter have lost four of their last 60 Serie A matches, winning 44 times and drawing on 11 occasions. In the same period the team to have lost the second fewest amount of matches is Atalanta, falling to defeat nine times.

For the seventh season in Serie A Inter have won more than 15 of their first 22 games (16 this campaign.) The last time Inter were beaten at home in Serie A was in October 2020 against Milan and have now gone 28 games unbeaten at San Siro. This is the longest unbeaten home run since the 46-match streak between April 2008 and November 2010.

PLAYER FOCUS 

Nicolo Barella and Hakan Calhanoglu have each registered seven assists so far in Serie A 2021/22: only two teams out of the five major European leagues can claim to have at least two players providing as many assists this season. They are Bayern Munich (Thomas Muller and Leroy Sane) and Liverpool (Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson.)

Edin Dzeko has been involved in six goals against Milan in Serie A, all while playing for Roma (five goals, one assist). In addition, the vast majority of these were at the Meazza.

LautaroMartinez has been involved in four goals (three strikes, one assist) in five games against Milan in Serie A. This includes a brace the Argentine scored in February 2021.

Ivan Perisic made his Serie A bow against Milan in September 2015, and over his career with the Nerazzurri he has provided five assists in the Italian top flight. That makes Milan his preferred opponent in the division when it comes to supplying goals. If the Croat finds the net on Saturday it will be his 50th strike for Inter. Only Lautaro Martinez (62) has scored more times than Perisic out of current Nerazzurri players.

Defender Stefan de Vrij has scored twice against Milan in Serie A; in March 2019 and February 2020.

When Samir Handanovic takes to the field this weekend he will overtake Silvio Piola in the ranking of goalkeepers with the most appearances in Serie A. At present he is tied with Piola in ninth place, both having played 537 games.
